The Ferris wheel has 12 cabins with working doors. There's also a ramp and boarding platform that can be raised and lowered by a lever attached to the base. The wheel itself spins using a crank that is built out of LEGO pieces.

This is the first $199 LEGO set that I believe is worth every penny, from both a playability factor but also from a collector or displayer's point of view. Kids faces will light up just seeing this in stores, and adults like me will get to reminisce about the first time they ever went up in a ferris wheel whenever they lay eyes on it.

This is one of my favorite LEGO sets. It is phenomenally designed, it gives you tons of build time, and it is a great value. I wish the Minifigs were not quite so generic, but they are good for populating my city. I highly recommend this set!

All in all, it's a brilliant set – one that takes pride of place on my display shelves. There's so much to look at! Loads of minifigures that make it come alive, some serious design and though has gone into this. Everyone that has seen it is amazed that it is made from LEGO.

A Christmas present to my 70+ year old wife who loves to build Lego. This was an extraordinary challenge, very delicate. Several times she got something wrong and we had to backtrack or disassemble. But once it was done, with the power motors to drive it, it delighted us all - still does every time we look at it. The grandkids are not going to get to play with this one - except maybe to turn the driver on that turns the wheel :-)

The 6x6 dishes are used as the Ferris Wheel's carriage roofs, while the walls of the carriage are formed by the Front 2X2 Sport slopes. As Yellow and Dark Purple have already been introduced, Bright Green is the only new colour in this part. A supply of 32 suggests there may be a repetitive nature to their use when building the Ferris Wheel! Some people see cars and mechs when they look at this particular slope; I see landscape, rolling hills with little sheep munching on the grass as shown in my alternative build for the new parts in set 10247. Much more peaceful than a fairground!

I like it, a lot. I didn't think I would but now I've seen it 'in the ABS' I'd rate it as one of the best, of not the best, set of 2015. Price-wise, at £150/$200 for almost 2500 parts, it would seem to be good value, particularly compared to licensed sets. Highly recommended!

Building the Ferris Wheel may take a while and can be repetitive, but it doesn't seem to really be an "expert" build. I'm not sure what the criteria is for that classification, maybe the use of the dodgy "stretch" technique to stop the platform friction when moving up and down. My 8yo son helped with most of the building and had no problems following the steps.
