For a remake, I think it's great. They managed to make a good set even better. Are the changes minor? Yes. Are they an improvement? Mostly, yes. Were they necessary? Perhaps not, but it's good that they made them instead of just re-releasing the exact same set. So if you didn't get the first Winter Toy Shop, I can highly recommend getting this one. If you do already have the old version, this one might still be worth picking up for the hugely improved minifigs and rare parts alone.
I highly recommend this if you don't have the original. If you do already have the set, I'll be frank – you could probably skip out on this and not miss out on much. Unless you have an obscene budget for LEGO, your money would be best funneled into some of the other great sets of 2014 and 2015.
As an AFOL I wanted to have a small Christmas display for the holidays. So I have Santa's Workshop (10245), the Winter Toy Shop (10249), the 2016 Holiday Train (10254), and the 2015 limited edition Gingerbread House (40139). The house looks great, I really like the little details inside (like the letters to Santa). The toy making machine and conveyor belt is cute. The reindeer are a bit cheesy, but I'll overlook it since the rest of the set look great.
This set is packed with classic LEGO elements and minifigures that allow fans to build a holiday-inspired shop setting. It will look great on it's own, or as part of a larger LEGO collection or diorama.
Adding this year's holiday set to the collection, this one is challenging to build (those street lamps!), but worth it! This one really gets you into the Christmas mood. Wish it had a little more room inside for toys. The light brick is a great addition to this one! Huge amount of minifigures and many toys. It goes very well with the past holiday sets. My kids enjoyed building this one as well.
The only real downside to this set is the fact there already was a previous one sold. While this may upset some collectors, it's also a great opportunity for new collectors — which is the whole point of the re-release in the first place. If you don't have the 2009 set, the LEGO 10249 one is a great buy. If you do have the previous one, they can be combined. Or, of course, you can buy two copies of this one and make a mega shop anyway!
Just taking a look at it, i can conclude that this is another very cute Christmas model that you can't miss if you're building your seasonal Winter Village. Despite being a much simpler and less advanced build than the Santa's Workshop (after all it's six years old), it still looks just as colorful and cheerful.
