I have received this product as a birthday gift and it was awesome!!! The building experience and the 'play' - although play to me now is more fidgeting with features than rolling it on the floor - are amazing. The only problem I would express for this product is that the assembly itself is not very difficult but sometimes it needs delicate handling as the part do not stay until fully assembled and a little force is needed in order to push the rods into actual place, for example, like when attaching the roof of the car. Other than that, it is an excellent product and a great gift!
I saw this on display at a Lego store while on a business trip. I convinced myself that I didn't need it but ended up ordering it a few weeks later off line. At age 31 I haven't really played with Lego's since I was a kid. I justified buying and building this though because I love the F40 and came to the realization that this is probably the only F40 I will ever be able to afford:D Everything went together smoothly. I'd recommend opening all the bags initially and just dumping them into a pile. I thought they would be in some kind of logical order where the first several pages of instructions used one bag. This would save hunting for pieces. However that is not the case. I had 3 bags with a #1 printed on them. Being an engineer was was fun to put together and appreciate how difficult it must have been to design this car. It took about 4 hours.
For the most part, not many collectors (unless they started a while ago) will have 10187, but five large scale vehicles is still a great display. I've got mine lined up on a shelf, along with some of my other favourite sets, and they look fantastic. These vehicles are highly collectible, and I really hope that LEGO produces more of them.
Like the Camper and Mini before it, it exists for display and it looks good enough to do that; it's one visual flaw not quite enough to detract from the whole. If you have petrol in your veins you'll like it.
This LEGO Creator set is graded at the expert level. It took TTPM's expert LEGO builder about 2.5 hours to build. This is a great challenge for teens and adults. This makes a beautiful display once completed.
The building techniques used in creating the supercar is absolutely fantastic and the final outcome is instantly recognizable. There are some stickers but they aren't as intrusive as you think although I wish the Ferrari logo on the hood was a printed piece.
There's no denying that this is a fantastic looking model, perhaps the best sports car LEGO has produced. Within the limits of the medium the look of the real vehicle has been captured well. It's a bit blocky in places but that's to be expected; it's made from mostly square bricks after all. The weakest part of the design are the rear pillars, which are printed on black slopes.
First off, the building experience is awesome. There are so many cool tricks used in this build to achieve the best possible look, each step reserves a surprise. The model itself is gorgeous, a great display model and is also instantly recognizable as the glorious F40 by anybody with even the minimal knowledge in supercars. I can confirm that the rear end is a little too squared compared to the real thing, but it's not ugly per se, the car globally has a nice line. And most important, its fidelity to the real model is absolutely astonishing.
