Retail price is $169.99 at LEGO! Awesome LEGO set... it adds a whole new layer of excitement and 'flavor' to the Creator Modular line-up. Having said that, the retail price for this set is $169.99. I'm hopeful that Amazon will start selling this set so it can be snagged at retail price rather than the higher and absurd inflated prices of secondary sellers. Long story short... excellent LEGO set here that offers a ton of unique detail and character, but keep your eyes open for retail price and steer clear of overpaying. Happy bricking.
All in all, if you're a fan of the Modular Buildings, then you'll eventually pick this set up if you haven't already. For those who are on the fence about it, I will say that it is an enjoyable build with very little downsides to it. The heads on the minifigures are easily swappable if you want the usual smiley faces to match up with the rest of the modulars.
I think this is a fantastic set for adult fans of LEGO, because it contains some really rare and interesting pieces, and great, advanced building techniques, and there are a ton of details in it - both in the inside and outside. There's only one small problem with it: I think it's a little bit overpriced compared to its size (it contains a lot of small pieces), but I can undertand that - the modular buildings are getting more and more detailed these days. :)
I loved building this diner. To be honest, I didn't really think about the move from the standard smiley faces to the new improved prints, but they help tell the story when it comes to this set. The build was a great experience and there are many techniques in this set that one doesn't find in other sets of any nature. For example, I loved how the front walls went together for the 2nd and third floors. And that car, it was a great build as well. Here's hoping that LEGO comes out with a Cadillac like that as an expert builder product in the future. The only thing I don't really like about this set was the gym on the 2nd floor. Though the ring and weight lifting parts were a delight to build, I can't help but think that the space was wasted. Maybe a small record store could have been put into the space instead. It makes more sense because of the 50's vibe and that vinyl records seem to be making a comeback. Maybe build something our singer could have sold on that level. Heck, even a vet clinic could have been better served for the space and our Ron Burgandy type character (the boxer) could have been the vet. Regardless, this is a great set and I recommend this build to everybody.
The Downtown Diner is a unique modular. It's a new style, with new faces, and the start of a new decade of one of the most anticipated “themes" from LEGO. Modulars are incredibly collectible – I'd say more so than many other themes, and shows off a brilliant array of build techniques and parts. The build experience is phenomenal, regardless of some of the potential sticking points in the set itself. It may not fit with the other modular buildings, but we never know – this might be the start of something new, and you don't want to miss that!
I had the same experience as Cassie - the box arrived without exterior covering, only a packing sticker and packing tape, suggesting it had been opened and resealed. As far as I can tell everything in the box is intact and in new condition, but I won't know for sure until I build it, and more importantly, I don't know why this is happening on an item sold as a new set. I will be buying my Lego sets elsewhere in the future.

While an initial look at the price tag will often make people scoff, these large LEGO sets really do give you the most bang for your buck. They are also full of amazing details and fun features. I always learn new building techniques as I make my way through the manuals. Where this set (and, in fact, all Creator modulars) tend to lose massive points is in the Minifigure department. In the past, the characters have all been very generic. In the Downtown Diner, the Minifigs have a bit more personality, but it still suffers from the same low brick-to-fig ratio as its predecessors. Regardless, I love this set, and I highly recommend it.
Maybe my low expectations set Downtown Diner up for success, but whatever the reason, I really love this modular. Building it was a wonderful experience, heightened by the several clever bits of element usage. The three floors of the building varied nicely, and I was glad to not see another apartment included as one of the upper levels.
Modular Buildings range have maintained a consistently high standard for over a decade and a great deal of expectation is therefore placed upon each new set. I am delighted to report that 10260 Downtown Diner does not disappoint in the slightest, offering a thoroughly enjoyable building experience as well as a spectacular final model and a superb selection of minifigures. The innovation we have come to expect of these models is undoubtedly present and it includes tremendous detail both inside and out.
I really enjoyed the build, especially how elements are used in unique ways or how they are put together in an interesting matter. Things like the windows aren't actually connected via clutch power instead there are held, quite cleverly, in place with arch bricks. The colour scheme is really eye-catching, there is something cool about pink, turquoise, and white that just works so well. This coupled with the interesting shapes of the architectural aspects of the set, like the large open curved window of the diner and that imposing rounded column window which runs across each floor of the building.
Creator Expert Modular Buildings aren't for everyone. If you're a Star Wars collector, you'll probably stick with something like 75202 Defense of Crait (which we also love). And for me, they were starting to feel very alike from set to set. But for builders with broader interests, these sets have become a must-have each year they're released. In keeping with the tradition begun by Jamie Berard's role as the designer of 10182 Café Corner a decade ago, 10260 Downtown Designer was created by fans-turned-designers Carl Merriam and Mike Psiaki. As a result, you'll stretch yourself and learn techniques that you won't see in the average LEGO City or Star Wars set under $300.
