It's pricey, but the value that's packed in the set is more than worth the price of admission. If you consider yourself a serious LEGO fan, I would seriously consider adding this set to your collection (or building it if you already own it!) if you haven't already.

My 11 year old did this all by himself. Good quality and challenging, yet fun!

Building this with my 10 year old daughter and both having a lot of fun doing it. Some parts (pillars) aren't that exciting but as it takes shape it is really cool and fun. Well detailed and complex enough not to be boring.... yet not a difficult build. Would recommend if you can afford the price tag. Trying to figure out how to display after we build because it is LARGE.

I don't write many reviews but I have built hundreds of Lego sets including the new Large Millenium Falcon, Giant R2D2, The big Disney Castle and most all of the Lego trains. This set was very entertaining. You have the vendor venues as stand alone scenes, and the track and structure for the engineering bug in you and the various functions of the set. The quality of this set is second to none. It runs perfect and it is very solid. The grandkids will love playing with this and it will hold up to their activities. If it does break, no problem, we will fix it together. Lego, here is the wishlist for future: - Expansion set with more track etc. - 360 degree loops, - Alternate themes we can add to this set like, wild animals, star wars or space, Dinosaurs etc I really enjoyed the various building techniques that I haven't seen before. Well done Lego designer.

It is a great functional model in its own right, as well as proving inspiration for many ways to build up structures around it, or design your own track. In short, I enjoyed putting it together, and enjoyed the sense of achievement. After several days, it is still very easy to just send a train for a run when I am walking past…

For LEGO builders and roller coaster fans, this is a lot of fun. We were intrigued by the building process, of course, but we really enjoyed the play, too. There's a lot of creativity and ingenuity built into this model, which you can discover for yourself as you build and play, all of which adds to the long-term appeal of the model.

Thinking about the build experience for the Roller Coaster (10261) still upsets me a little. However, I am happy that I bought this set all the same. The product is amazing once you get it working. Despite including eleven Minifigures, a set this size still needs one or two more in my opinion. Additionally, the value is good but not great. I doubt many people will ever find this set on sale though. So, if you want it, you will just have to fork out the full price. The assembly might be aggravating, but I cannot see many people hating the result.

It's a big, all out roller coaster design that's mean to be displayed, and it does that well. For me, I think my roller coaster cravings will be better satisfied with the Pirate coaster; but if you are a coaster fanatic, this is a really fun set to have. it just carries with it a high cost, a build that can suffer from repetitiveness at times, and honestly a large footprint which can be a problem itself.

Recommendation: meh 3 / 5 by Koen Van Der Hoeven

Despite coming into this set with high expectations I was left with mixed feelings. The cool selection of minifigures and my inner engineer nerding out at the mechanics behind how to operate the coaster and watching the carts seamlessly glide through the tracks leaves a soft warm feeling in my heart. Despite that however, this is one of the few sets I have built recently that I would not like to build again. Repetition for me and the lack of finer details and varied building styles within the set left a feeling of being glad to be done after building this set, which is something that I have not yet experienced, nor want to experience with LEGO. Scale was something I did not anticipate on, and to no fault of the set I feel it is very large for the average collector so this is not a set one would purchase on a whim to display, this does not affect my review or rating of this set but is something to keep in mind when deciding whether or not to purchase this set.

Is this set for you? If you couldn't already tell, it's not for me. It's far too big, it costs too much, the build experience was very repetitive, it's too fragile to move around, and while it looks exactly like some old-style roller coasters (Luna Park in Melbourne is what it reminds me of), I don't think it's a particularly attractive model - at least until the cars start running around the track and starts mesmerising the audience!

With the resources needed to develop a brand-new track and car system for the Roller Coaster, TLG must have pinned a lot of hope in it. The LEGO City Miners sub-theme came at an appropriate time, making use of the rails, and I am eager to see what other new ideas they come up with to exploit the elements. [...] It is a good time to be a LEGO fan with three iconic fairground rides available at the same time. I can't wait to see the humongous reinterpretations of these rides in upcoming AFOL conventions. Suspended railway, anyone?

For anyone who is in love with the whole series of Creator Expert Amusement Park sets, this is definitely a perfect addition to the collection. I personally really love this color scheme. After seeing grey track in a couple other sets recently released, I was worried that the whole thing would be grey. So it was a wonderful surprise to see such a vibrant outcome! Even though the set is pretty sturdy, my one concern is the fact that is doesn't quite stand up to a ton of repetitive play. Eventually you have to make sure the track pieces are all still firmly connected, or else risk a derailment. If a derailment occurs on the lift, and you are running a motor, the binding up of parts can be tough on both the mechanisms and motor. To anyone who chooses to purchase the set, I would suggest being extra cautious while building the mechanical components.

There is no question that this is a fantastic set and the best fairground ride produced so far. An official LEGO roller coaster is long overdue and this set will make many dreams come true. Price-wise, £300 / $330 for over 4000 pieces represents pretty good value and my only complaint about it is that it might have been better to have charged a tenner more and include a motor and battery box because without them it's not as much fun.
