This is a great set. It is not as great as the MMV, but it is definitively a close second!
Firstly, I want to say that this is not the MMV, and I don't think it is intended to be It fulfills a different purpose. It is not a set depicting day-to-day life in the middle ages for some peasants. Rather, it is an all-around castle set, more than the MMV can ever be. Including small fortifications, large fortifications, peasant's buildings, a sporting event, and, as I said above, at least one of almost every major type of castle minifig. It doesn't replace the MMV, but it is a worthy successor to the MMV.
i passed up buying this set for years, although it remained on my wish list. finally, i broke down and bought myself a "present". i was VERY pleased with both the complexity and detail in this model. (and, yes, i view legos as "models", not "toys", since i'm too old for toys... lol!) the ability to reconfigure it and link it with other sets is fantastic. i have a nice little village going up on a shelf in my office, consisting of Midieval Market Village and Kingdoms Mill Village Raid, plus some reconfigured sets and figures. (everything from a dad teaching his son archery, to kids watching a couple jesters juggle on a stage.) the Joust set completed the "festive" atmosphere of the village and gave a "reason" for all the foot traffic i added. pretty neat stuff!
