A fantastic model and great building experience—#21039 Shanghai is one of those rare “must-have" sets! It is recommended for anyone who loves LEGO, Architecture, or Travel (even if you haven't been to Shanghai.) Maybe a set this good will inspire you to visit in the future?
I own almost all the LEGO architecture series sets and this set definitely stands out in unique ways, every building has a different unique way as to how it's build and definitely forces you to pay close attention to the detailed description of the manual. Is it expensive? Yes. but then again it's lego...and compared to other pieces this definitely is good value for what you get.
Overall a great set. It will be better if it's bigger. Besides, it this a typo on Page 4? (I think it should Longhua Pagoda instead of Longhau)
It's impossible to capture all the detail, but I think Lego has done a great job. Lego builders and architecture enthusiasts will love this set.
Personally, I find the Skyline sub-theme the most desirable out of the box collectible item from LEGO®. Even if collecting isn't your thing, certain cities can hold sentimental value to you. Unfortunately, I hold no such connection with Shanghai, China (yet), but the clever techniques used throughout the build and the overall premium feel of the product makes for a very pleasant experience regardless.
The buildings feature a diversity of techniques that successfully captures Shanghai landmarks. With 597 pieces the LEGO 21039 set is larger than other skyline models but the build time is relatively quick. This is a welcome addition to the skyline family and a perfect gift for any fan of architecture.
The city of Shanghai represents a spectacular collision between ancient, colonial and modern Chinese architecture and that has been replicated beautifully here. I appreciate the dramatic difference in height between these buildings and their distinctive architectural styles combine to create an attractive display model, featuring a brilliant colour scheme as well as some interesting building techniques. The twisting Shanghai Tower is particularly impressive.
The completed Shanghai skyline is a pleasure to behold, with new and old architecture styles mixing and providing the visual feast of colors and textures that the city is known for. Each building utilizes different building techniques that are quite enlightening to experience. While many Architecture sets suffer from repetitive building, this set was very fun to construct (taking an hour and a half, including a quick sort of pieces).
The finished model of the LEGO Architecture Shanghai (21039) skyline set is a beauty. Every one of the buildings utilize distinctive building techniques which makes the whole building experience even more fun. I've built a few of the Skyline sets already but this one is probably the best one.
