Elsa's Sparkling Ice Castle can be enjoyed by everyone – kids, adults, boys, girls, men and women. I really love that the entire model looks great on display and despite slight minidoll colour and printing flaws, is one of the most enjoyable sets that I've built recently. I'm glad that I chose this set for my first 2015 build.
My 4 year old who loves Frozen had to have this. Once we received it, she was eager to start building. the box says ages 6-12, which is probably accurate. since my daughter is 4, I had to assist her in putting the Legos together, but it was a fun together-time project. I was actually surprised at how well she was able to find each piece needed and was pretty good at putting them together correctly for the most part. I was just there to oversee and tell her if she was putting anything on wrong. She had a great time building it and felt a sense of pride once she completed it. Her only complaint was that the castle was small than she expected. But as a 4 year old, I can only image what she thought the size would be (life size maybe?) who knows! As far as what's included: the ice castle, Elsa, Anna, a sled, Olaf, and a picnic setting. It is very nice. Hopefully one day Lego will make another set to include Kristoff and Sven.
This is a fun new way for girls to interact with the characters from the movie Frozen. It comes with a lot of great details to encourage all sorts of play scenarios. Fans will like building and playing out scenes from the movie or imagining all-new adventures for the characters.
This is a wonderful set. It's the right size where it's reasonable enough for kids to build on their own. There's some nice details and accessories for lots of play value. It could've been enough to just have the castle, along with Elsa, Anna, and Olaf. Beyond that though, there's a sleigh with a mini-hill, a hideaway storage area in the hill for a few small things, the stairway expands out to re-live a scene from "Let It Go," a small picnic area for Olaf's "In Summer," ice cream cones, Elsa's crown, and ... the list goes on. Very unique, very nicely done. Highly recommended.
I really wanted to like this set, but I just can't quite bring myself to. It feels like Lego pulled a random castle design from the files then redid it into white and trans blue to look icy and allow a Frozen tie in set. The figs are great, but the castle isn't.
Inside the palace there is an ice-cream bar – another favourite of the kids. And the icicles on the tree are also a really nice touch. All in all the set was a big success. Ana and Elsa are now part of the considerable Friends family that lives on their LEGO table, ready to find out what snowmen do in summer…
To be honest it doesn't really matter how good the set actually is as the Frozen branding is what will sell it to most buyers I am sure. However, this is a pretty impressive incarnation of Elsa's palace in my opinion which recreates many of the major features as well as including some play features and accessories. The colours are not perfect with regard to accuracy but they convey the snow and ice of the scene very effectively and contribute to a striking display model.
All in all, this set is small and simple, but it's great for its playability and target audience, which is mainly young girls. This set joins other later Disney Princess sets, which are closer to the Friends and other girl-oriented sets. As such, it's very playable and very interesting especially for children around five and six, sometimes even younger. There's enough there to mix and match with other LEGO sets, so the LEGO Frozen Castle provides very good value for the price.
Now it's time to shamefully admit that neither of us has seen the animated film Frozen, so it's hard to say wether or not it's faithfull to the movie. But it surely seems that any Frozen fan will enjoy playing with this set.
