While this isn't the best of deals when it comes to functionality I'm still very happy with this set and got it mostly for the minifigures and the parts.
My kids love the Pirates of the Caribbean Lego toys!I'm very disappointed that Disney "over controls" these products in stores! If they only knew how much more money they would make by NOT "discontinuing" the Pirates of the Caribbean items and other Disney toys from the stores. Just because the movies are not around doesn't mean you need to pull them off the store shelves. They would definitely still be bought as parents would enjoy making a Pirate themed party for their child and also buy Pirates of the Caribbean Lego toys, and order them Pirates of the Caribbean cake! Stop pulling them off the store shelves!!! They did the same thing with Toy Story after Christmas 2 years ago.
Overall the set has decent value, several minifigs, and coins for people who like treasure. I wish that they would have found a way to put Will Turner into the set, perhaps by moving Elizabeth Swan. It would have made it feel a little more… complete.
To conclude, this is a very good set for starters who are unsure of this whole POTC theme. I purposely selected this set to give myself a chance to see if I could like the whole POTC LEGO theme and to my expectations, after writing this review, I must admit that the whole POTC LEGO theme is just sheer brilliance.
I am super-excited to put my Captain Jack minifig on display and use some of the gold pieces. But there are some other cool Pirates sets out there too depending on your mood.
