Crafty kids will love getting creative with LEGO Dots. We like that the line ranges from jewelry to desktop items, and that the larger kits include storage and sorting trays to make building easier. And all the crafts are super easy to change up whenever kids want a new look.
I was a little apprehensive about the new dots bracelets but I'm so glad I got one. There's hundreds of combinations with the 30 bricks/ tiles provided. This love birds bracelet looks particularly good on adults and fits easily too. Friendship bracelets are really fashionable right now. Will be getting one for my friend. Please release more designs Lego!
This bracelet has a decidedly tropical colour theme and also comes with two new printed tiles - the bird's eye printed quarter circle and a cool yellow printed piece used for bird feathers. I can see both pieces being put to many uses in MOCs! There's also a new 1x1 round piece with a heart print.
I feel like I say this every review, but I feel a bit torn. On the one side: The builds are boring. There is nothing special going on, and all just serve as a canvas for the DOTS. On the other side: The DOTS part of the sets are very nice. My kids love coming up with designs, albeit a tedious job to add the parts one by one. The goal of the theme is to spark creativity, and that it does. The theme is also met with a great response, both from adults and kids. On social media, I see many creative designs passing by. So I think LEGO hit the mark with the idea. If you want to do something else with your LEGO bricks than only building vehicles and buildings, this is a nice change of pass.
LEGO Dots is certainly fulfilling a need we haven't seen from the company in a long time, but the way they've integrated buildable bracelets with common LEGO tiles is nicely done. Even if adult collectors may not be interested in the jewelry aspect of the sets, the various tiles and the potential for the strap piece could be used for some fun building projects. The bags of extra tiles are worthwhile too.
Beyond as a fashion accessory for a child, what utility do these bracelets have? They are likely to be show up on the wrists of adult fans at conventions, and knowing how inventive the community is will no doubt find their way into fan builds too – the flexibility that they offer may come in handy.
As someone who likes colours, the designs have been well thought out and I can see the new printed tiles appearing in MOCs giving a great reason to buy a few packs to play with or simple use as parts packs for your own building enjoyment. Such fun!
