This is a really robust fun toy! I (as well as my 5 y.o. boy) really liked LEGO Technic Stunt Bike (42058) because that doesn't break when kids play tough unlike regular lego! So I bought both Whack (42072) & Bash (42073) for my son & his friend. It's a bit challenging to 5 Y.O., but not overwhelming. I think it's just right amount to stimulate & develop cognitive & fine motor skills for 5~8 y.o. kids. Compared to Technic Stunt Bike, this pair run farther (less resistance after the wind-up motor runs out of propulsion), although the initial acceleration is slower. Also boys love these bad-ass racers more because they have something that breaks (sort of) when crash. You know... boys smile when something runs fast but they cracks when something breaks ;) I think it's a clever idea to include a built-in controlled-breaking mechanism.
Overall, product was good and there were extra bricks that came with it. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys building vehicles and like to try to build with Technic bricks.
Whack! features a sturdy bumper and a cool-looking spoiler. But my favorite part is its pull-back action.
Pullback motor? Light weight/high speed? Race car/rugged formula shape? Well, i think kids will have fun with this small racer. Does it look good? Younger racers will probably like it. I prefer something that looks a bit more defined, even though, I am aware that this set is small and has limited number of parts.
Build wise, there's not much to it, but it has playability by the bundle and really comes into it's own if you have it's sister set and another “player" in your household. There's something definitely satisfying about putting that last wheel on and being able to play with it in a manner that you can't with minifig based sets. In many ways it is a more attractive starter set than the 42084 Hook Loader as it has more "fun" on offer. Throw in the teased alternate build and there's even more reason to own the pair of them.
