Mack Anthem

The 2 in 1 is a nice touch, but this thing is large. Even after reading the dimensions it didn't click. Only after getting the package for father in law for Christmas did I start to see how big it was. He had been eyeing this for some time and when he opened it the shock of such a large set was awesome to see. Definitely a great gift for those that like to build. more less

Another enjoyable build. Lots of detail in the Prime Mover plus the nice little touch with the Mack emblem. The trailers cranes are masterpieces of design that mimic the real cranes used to raise/lower the shipping containesrs. The overall size of the finished model makes it really stand out in my display. more less

As said before, one of the most beautiful Technic sets ever made. Very nice work on the outriggers and lifts. Good: Excellent functions on the trailer. Great looking and big model, great details, smooth looks and notable effort to make this model as close as possible to the real truck. Lots of new parts in DBG. Nice B model. Good price. Bad: Some parts of the truck and the trailer are weak or fragile. Mixing Technic with Creator might not be to everyone's taste. Truck's bonnet too long, wheel arches too blocky. Definitely worth buying! more less

Overall the 42078 Mack Anthem set is an odd one. The truck is a really well judged blend of Model Team's visual realism and Technic's functionally (even if this writer would prefer just a bit more functionality…), and probably pitches the set in a sweet spot that the Lego Community has occupied for some time. On its own it would be highly recommended. The trailer on the other hand feels like an after-thought, albeit one that uses a substantial amount of pieces and probably features some rather clever engineering. more less

This is a fantastic model in every regard that knocks the socks off those released in the theme's 40th anniversary year last year. The Anthem itself looks stunning and it's great to see increasing quantities of System parts being used in Technic sets to improve the aesthetics and to provide small details that are normally lacking. At first glance you might be hard pressed to tell it's actually a Technic model. Packed within it is a very clever steering mechanism that's coupled to the steering wheel, something that's rare in sets these days. more less

It's a splendid combination of everything one can expect from a Technic set. It's big, it's fairly complicated, yet easy to build and to play with. It has some very nice pieces in useful colors, and itself it is an excellent donor of pieces. Finally, it is a very, very skillfully designed set. I can recall dozens of Technic sets that are loved by many fans for everything except for their design — probably due to the limitations imposed by the Technic system. And if that's the case, then a handful of System pieces was all we needed. more less
