Great LEGO Set. My son spent his time in one day on building this because he enjoyed working on it and didn't want to quit. It looks great and is on display in his room. I love it!!
This is not meant to compete with the Lambo and Bugatti as a shelf decoration. It's a much smaller set, for a younger owner. This set is a toy, first and foremost. It's ruggedly built. I tried dropping it, rolling it over, and being rough with it. Nothing fell off. This set is ready for kids to take it outside, drive it through the dirt, and treat it like a toy. On a pile of rocks, it's right at home. To me, it doesn't have the features to be a fun Technic model nor the looks to be a visual model. For a kid, it's fantastic as a toy.
Ultimately, this is a solid, fun set, but unless you're a huge Jeep fan who can't wait to get your hands on LEGO's first Technic Jeep, you should wait to buy it on a bit of a discount (or perhaps when there's a particularly interesting gift-with-purchase and double VIP points, if buying directly from LEGO).
Overall the set is fun to build and has all the features you would expect in a set this size. It looks good and – and this is where the model scores big – it is just the right size for Technic figures. The only real drawback: the large turning radius.
This is a very satisfying recreation of a Jeep Wrangler in a scale that won't break the bank. It's a lot of fun to play around with and looks excellent on display too, and is a great starting point for those looking to dip into the Technic theme for the first time. While there are a few shortcomings where a little more attention to detail would have been welcome, overall this is a set that's easy to recommend.
This is a fun little build. For die-hard Technic fans, used to building the larger sets, this might be a bit too simple, but for beginners and children, this is a ideal size. It's hard to get an exact look of the original model in this scale using Technic parts, but I think the designers made it work. My only complaint is under the hood. There is a large empty space there. I think fitting an engine with moving pistons would be tricky in this scale, but at least put in a mock-up?
