This is a solid set. The camper is 6 studs wide. The directions are straight forward. There is a fair amount of stickers for this set so some younger builders might need some help with application. I like the storage on top of the camper for vests and oars. I for the price this set is almost perfect. My only complaints would be the following:Cons:1) There is no side ladder or indication of foothold for figure to climb into driver seat or access the roof. I think the absence of these cut down on the play value some.2)The front roof canopy is one piece and is only held in by two studs as the color studs in front are flat on one side. The parts list identifies different studs so I order a set directly from Lego. The roof will secure much better when I switch the studs out. You will see what I mean when building set. Keep in mind to tell younger children to not pick up camper by roof as they may drop the entire set.
The triumph of this set is the achievement of a very realistic-looking camper and a fun play set for a simple build. And it's just one of many great looking civilian sets new for 2014! Your dilemma should not be which to buy, but which to buy first.
This set gets 8.5 out of 10 paddles. If the life vests were a little better designed, and maybe the interior of the van laid out different (sure, it's always going to be a problem with a six-stud wide vehicle, but a guy can dream), then it would get a bit higher. It's a pretty good looking set, albeit a small one, has some good playability, and is a good addition to a city scene.
The realistic details and moving parts in this set help bring an adventurous camping scene to life.
