I helped my Grandson put the pieces together in 15 mins, I was just as excited to see the finished product but then I laid it down in the seat of my car gently n it fell apart just that easy. Wouldn't make a good connection in the lego. I so wanted this to be a great gift but instead my Grandson cried when it wouldn't stay together. I am so disappointed.
So on the whole this set isn't a huge standout, however for what it tries to be it accomplishes. The minifigure selection is good for a small set like this, the builds could be better but they offer a nice sampling of the Mining subtheme, playability is not bad for a set of this size, and the price is pretty great.
I am yet to see one of these sets that does not hold any appeal. So much action in a small set, for a reasonable price, it can be incorporated easily into a larger mining layout, or general city outskirts region. I like the minifigure selection, and appreciate that each of the figures have their own character shining through.
The vast majority of City Starter Sets have been excellent in my opinion, providing great play value in relation to their low price as well as a pleasing taste of what the larger sets might have to offer. 60184 Mining Team is very successful in this regard, including all three stages of the mining operation as the gold is excavated and then transported to the lab for analysis. Admittedly, the research station is tiny but I think it is adequate in the context of this set.
