As an older builder, very rarely do I find a build reminiscent of my childhood. Lego today is just a different beast than the old line, (and that's not necessarily a bad thing) but the Ninjago line seems to have rekindled some of that old magic, at least to me. The original IP is refreshing in an era of licensed sets, and Destiny's Bounty is the crown jewel in this remarkable line. There are so many unique and creative pieces in the build, and it's a large ship, so you can't really go wrong there. I had an absolute blast building this set and would highly recommend to all anyone who looks back on their childhood lego sets fondly. And kids, kids would really enjoy this set.

Destiny's Bounty is easily one of my favorite LEGO® sets. Personally, it is a childhood dream realized. Pirates is no longer and active theme, and I missed out on the original Ninjas theme. While there has been a resurgence of Pirates during my AFOL years, I didn't collect it for budget reasons. This one was not on my buy-list either, but I can make a stretch and still include it in my city. Ninjago City does have a more traditional lower level, after all. You are also getting a great value in terms of the cost per brick, as well as the build time. You can collect the ninjas in other sets, but here you get them all in one shot, and they are nice. There are tons of accessories too. This set is fun for adults and kids alike.

This is not my normal type of set - I have never bought a Ninjago set before, I normally stick to the modular buildings. But I thought this ship looked like fun, so I gave it a try. I love it! The ship is gigantic, and the details are amazing. I loved the captain's cabin, the little toilet area, the lanterns, the dojo, the shades that roll up, the garden boxes - everything is cleverly thought out and smartly integrated. It gave me the same sense of surprise and delight that I get from the modular buildings. Very happy that I took a chance on this.

Overall, this is a fantastic set – one of the best sets of 2017 in my opinion. The build is as good as it gets: as detailed as a UCS set (or more!) The minifigures are pretty good as well, and the various interiors and spaces for figures are good for play. The price to part ratio is great, and I think the price-to-volume (my preferred method) is good as well, especially in the UK. The model's immense detail and volume help to boost its value.

I still stand by my statement, and I know I'm not alone in thinking this, that the NINJAGO lineup for 2017 was the strongest across the board. Not counting the gorgeous NINJAGO City, 70618 Destiny's Bounty is leading the way in both design and appearance. It's massive, which is always a drawcard for me, especially when it comes to ships. There's also a mixture of old and new, which is often depicted across Asia. The mixture of old time wooden junks and a relatively modern engine at the back is excellent, and also that the designers decided to hide the engine away from view. It makes for a nice little detail when showing people.

Recommendation: meh 4.2 / 5 by Daniel

Without reservation, this set is recommended for both AFOLs and children. There was universal excitement when images of Destiny's Bounty first emerged and that has proven to be completely justified. Claiming multiple top spots in various categories of ship attributes, the dizzying array of building techniques coupled with playability and display potential combine to create a set that is truly fabulous. Considering its size and piece count it also offers incredible value for money. The only weak spot is the minifigures, but this really is a minor quibble. This is a great place to begin your collection of The LEGO NINJAGO Movie sets.

70618 Destiny's Bounty is nothing short of spectacular. The level of detail throughout the model is absolutely tremendous and it includes an impressive interior so there is plenty to be discovered both inside and out. There are few play features included but the entire vessel is designed for interaction with the minifigures and it therefore offers considerable play value, as well as an exceptional outward appearance which is perfect for display.

Not only was the ship fun to build, but it was chock full of clever techniques that I can't wait to use in my own models. It is also a beautiful display model, that would look handsome on a shelf for guests to admire. There are a lot of play features in the set, but the difficulty of the build and the fragility of the model makes it unsuitable to younger children. The box recommends 9-14, but I think they are erring on the young side here. I'm not sure that my 9-year-old would have the fortitude to put this 2295 element set together. On top of all my other recommendations, this set has a fantastic price per piece. LEGO® ships are often expensive, owing to the large specialty elements, but this one comes in under 7¢ a piece (accounting for all the extra elements).

This set is packed full of details. It feels more akin to a City Modular than a standard Ninjago set, and both in details and design reminds me a lot of Metalbeard's Sea Cow. 2,295 pieces for $159.99 brings this set to only $0.07 per piece, making it clearly a good bargain even if you're just interested in the parts.

I cannot express how much I love this set. Not only is it a really fun build the finish set is a marvel to look at with an impressive level of detail. The overall size of the size is surprising and is more than a match for one of my other favourite sets, Metalbeard's Sea Cow, which incidentally was also based on a LEGO Movie. But whereas the Sea Cow was a D2C set, with a few more pieces and a higher price point, in my opinion this set is just as imposing in size and detail.
