This is easily one of my favorite Ninjago Dragons I have ever purchased. While it may be small in size, this figure retains all the same features as the original, and features even more articulation. It also comes with two really desirable Minifigures (Golden Lloyd, and the Overlord), and one figure that is nice for Army building (a Stone Scout). I would say if you are a Ninjago fan and you missed out on the original golden dragon like I did, this is a must have. If you already have the original, you still may enjoy this set, but you might find it disappointing.
This dragon is pretty good. The minifigs are all great and for both Golden Lloyd and The Overlord to be included in the same set for a low price is amazing considering that both came in more expensive sets in the past. The dragon itself has a few issues. The toes are the biggest disappointment. They are so small and the build of them isn't that good. This dragon also has trouble standing. The use of the moulded head works here. The tail is good. The wings could be better. I would have preferred them if they had the larger blades for the entire wing instead of a small katana. This set is also a little sticker heavy for its size. I would have preferred actual gold pieces instead of stickers on the wings. The body is pretty good and the saddle looks nice with the white. This set is better than the original by just a hair in my opinion. The sleeker look makes it look better as opposed to the blocky one from 2013. I definitely wouldn't recommend this over the Ultra Dragon or the Monastery of Spinjitzu, but its still a good small set for people who don't have a high budget.
Overall, I think this is an outstanding and affordable playset to have a positive sampling flavour with LEGO Ninjago classic series.
Overall, I think this set is okay, but not great. The minifigure selection is good, but the build is just alright as it's too skeletal for my liking. It's also kind of small which is disappointing, as a large golden LEGO dragon would have been absolutely epic. Playability is okay but nothing really jumps out, and the price feels too expensive, especially in relation to the size of the build.
Creating a smaller version of a retired set is probably among the most difficult challenges that a LEGO designer can encounter, particularly when the original model was very popular. However, I am pleased with 70666 The Golden Dragon. This dragon offers superior articulation and looks threatening, despite being considerably smaller than its predecessor. The updated head, for instance, is highly detailed.
It was a great choice on the part of the LEGO Group to made 70666 The Golden Dragon a smaller set for this Legacy series, letting children get access to the unique golden dragon and Lloyd in his gold form. For NINJAGO fans, this is a must own in this wave of ninja-nostalgia, especially at the incredibly fair asking price.
