Recommendation: yes 5 / 5

This is another hysterical set from The LEGO Movie that gives kids multiple vehicles and minifigures that they can use to restage scenes from the movie, or direct their own wacky adventures. Kids who have seen the movie will be the most likely to enjoy this because they will know who the characters are, but it's not essential.

A unique set, that's fun to build, and has some great elements included.

There are some great parts tucked into the set, and good stickers, and it's genuinely fun to build. Like most of the rest of The Movie line, it delivers excellent value for the price, packing 473 parts into a set that only runs $40. In short, it's a set you won't feel bad about picking up, and as an AFOL, will probably get some nice memories out of.

This was actually the first set of the wave that I built, and it wasn't a great start, but there are a lot of better sets to be had, thankfully. Still, there are some good elements here. The minifigures are all useful and offer existing parts in new colors, plus good prints all around. The Micro Manager is fun, and some of the little detail builds are superb, like the shawarma and piano.

The bi-wing plane really stood out for me in this set. It looks great and when combined with the other robot/flyer models can have some great play. There are four new minifigures, whereas most of the other Movie sets this size have three or less.

This is a cracking set which I would heartily recommend. It features a nice mix of techniques, some of them quite advanced, and some great pieces. This could be a good set to inspire a 10 or 11 year-old to try out more complex building for themselves.

Overall, this is not the most iconic set from The LEGO Movie lineup so far. None of the characters or vehicles have appeared in the trailers, so we don't know how big a role these models will play, but they seem a little lacking compared to some of the other spectacular sets in the theme. The Saloon Biplane is well done, but the Flying Kebab Stand is a bit bland and the Micro Manager doesn't stand out from any of its other companions. If you want something based on the movie, I might suggest going for one of the sets featuring the main characters. Or if you're interested in a zany build, one of the other vehicles that has an alternate model might be a better buy, since the Saloon and Kebab Stand are unfortunately lacking in official alternate builds.

Would I recommend it? To be honest, not really. The minifigures are great, but (very) minor characters and the vehicles only appear fleetingly in the movie. Unless you're aiming for all of the movie sets or are looking for background models for a The LEGO Movie Display, the set doesn't really add anything and you would probably be better spending your money on one of the other models derived from a more memorable scene of the movie.
