Kopaka and Melum - Unity set

My 5-year-old LOVES Bionicles. He knows them by name...plays with them daily, builds new creatures out of them...is always trying to build something bigger & better! My only complaint is that Lego has discontinued the Bionicle line. I have a very sad 5-year-old. more less

The product is quite sturdy, and plays well. The play functions, as well as the "Unity" function with the creature adds to the playability of the set. The gearbox set in the waist allows for not only waist articulation, but an attack function. With the new CCBS torso piece, it also adds customization features, such as reusing the gearbox from 2015 Kopaka. The set alone however, is enough to play with, and is a great set. The creature set, Melum, is also great to play with. The creature has a gearbox function as well, giving him the ability to make a clapping or hugging motion. The colors of Melum also compliment Kopaka well when combined. I recommend this set to anyone looking for good value and 2 great sets. more less

So apparently Kopaka is left-handed now? Anyway, the Kopaka and Melum Unity Set is a nice combo that seems a few dollars more than what it should really be. Admiring the set for itself though will show a cool little creature that can saddle up with a well-built Toa, even if Kopaka has some design flaws in color and limb thickness. The set has a slew of new and cool parts and once built looks great on display. The play features will make him a nice addition to a toy collection, and the parts, especially the masks, will add some creativity to a building collection. In the end, it always comes down to your own value for a set, but Kopaka and Melum has a lot of it where it counts. more less

I like these two figures. Kopaka looks decent enough in both his unified and standalone form, and is without a doubt my favorite of the cheaper Toa of the wave. He has the best proportions, a decent color scheme (save for the two gold pieces), and really only suffers design wise from very thin portions above his elbows. more less

If you like to get both Toa and Elemental Creature at once for the Unity feature, Kopaka and Melum are great for that need. The combination model works great and the two look completely chill together and separately. more less

Let's get the negatives out of the way first; is Kopaka and Melum Unity set worth the actual price tag you're paying for it? Debatably. No shadow trap, a slightly diminutive creature, and parts that don't quite equal their sum total. Thankfully the actual price acknowledges these missing elements, but even with that, it's still a lesser overall package than you'd find by getting a Toa and Creature separately. However, is it a good set? Yes. Kopaka may be radically different, but he's got a definite attitude that's matched by his build, and a lot of fun things to play around with. And the Unity feature, for these guys, is absolutely tops, one of the best (if not the actual best) of the line. So if you're looking for the full value, I'd say give him a miss. But if you like the convenience, or are just a sucker for Ice sets (which I didn't used to be until last year!) the final result won't disappoint you. more less
