My 12 year old son got this set for himself and when he showed me the complete set, he showed me that a 1x1 white cone had been swapped for a 1x2 tan green tile. Because of this swapped piece, he was not able to have the indiana jones hat stay were it was supposed to.
My son loves LEGOs and Ninjago and normally a Ninjago LEGO set is a pure hit in our house. Overall, this is a good set, but it might not be for everyone depending on your preferred style of play. The set is very mini-figure heavy, with 9 characters, representing all the ninja plus a selection of baddies. While there are some fun "props" such as costume changes for the mini figures, what this really means is that for a 218 piece set, you're not building that much. My son tends to prefer the structure based sets, that let him get a reasonable build in for a toy or scene. If you are looking for a nice selection of Ninjago figures and a great set up for imaginative play, then this set is awesome. Just ensure that's what you're looking for.
This is a great set with 9 unique minifigures and satisfactory builds for role-playing that will make avid NINJAGO fans happy and entertained for hours.
Gamer's Market (71708) is a solid purchase, and I do not mind having paid full price for it. The value of the set seems poor on first glance. However, if you start to look at the kit more like a people pack than a build, the value is not that bad. Additionally, the set has the best brick-to-fig ratio of a non-people pack set that I have ever seen. The characters themselves are amazing too. Additionally, there are several new Minifigure parts and prints. While the set does cater to Ninjago fans more than anyone else, I like it.
Rarely does a set capture its sense of place through buildings and minifigures as well as 71708 Gamer's Market. Taking NINJAGO somewhere entirely new, the bright green and red colours give the world consistency, while influences from dystopian future set films such as Blade Runner immediately jump out. This is one for fans of the theme, but also anyone who finds it visually striking – it looks just as good in person and with nine minifigures, offers great value for money.
71708 Gamer's Market seems likely to become the most popular of the new NINJAGO sets and that accolade is undoubtedly deserved. The minifigure selection is outstanding and many exclusive pieces are provided, notably including Avatar Pink Zane and Harumi's distinctive attire which takes inspiration from Kill Bill. The latter elements may attract people who are not established NINJAGO collectors.
The whole set is incredibly great value for money and I hope this is the first of many more ‘People Pack' type sets to be released beyond the LEGO City theme.
This season of Ninjago brings a lot of interesting new characters and redesigns, so it's fantastic to get a set that allows you to pick up most of the cast in one swoop at a reasonable price point. The brick-built sections aren't anything special, but they serve their purpose well even though most people will be buying the set for the minifigures. If you find your minifigures end up in a bin while you build cool models with the bricks, this probably isn't the set for you. However, if you're a minifigure person, and you're only going to buy one Ninjago set this year, this is the one to get, since it has a sampling of nearly all the most interesting characters from the other sets.
