I bought this before the movie coming out, and with reservation. I assembled the transporter and was impressed with the build, the functions, the integration of technic pieces, and array of minifigs. After building this set and being impressed, I went to opening weekend and saw the actual transport in action. It was then that I really appreciated the set, the characters/minifigs, and the play features. I strongly recommend this set, especially for younger builders. I look forward to future sets of this caliber and hope the minifigs keep coming....this set was a great value.
My 5 year old Grandson was SO Happy to receive this toy that he actually broke down sobbing . I gave it to him for an early Valentines day gift. Can't get much better than that. !
Before getting this set I was fixated that I will be getting this set so that I can get Captain Phasma. Then, I realise that Captain Phasma is just the icing on top after I finished building the set. The build is very enjoyable. AAL is also a very recognisable vehicle that appeared in many Star Wars media, including video games, animated shorts, and comics.
I think this set is a nice set. The build is good, the playability is decent and the figures are great. However, I think the price is a little hard to stomach.

Honestly, this is one of those “not nearly as bad as first thought" type of builds. There are certainly some issues, and the ship itself is pretty ridiculous, but this is also a fictional universe that gave us Wookiee Catamarans that took on tanks and walkers that invade at about 5 km/h… so how do you really judge ridiculous?
I am very happy with this set. It isn't perfect, but from the little we have seen of it, it seems accurate enough for a kid's toy, and the minifigure selection is great. 4 Troops, Phasma, and 2 resistance fighters who won't stand a chance. No complaints from me.
I think these troop transport sets are often some of the most enjoyable to play with, but few sets are packed with as many play features as this one. Between the moving ramp, firing missiles, pop-up turret, rolling wheels and adjustable flaps it would be difficult to fit any more fun in this set! The level of detail is also excellent on both the exterior and interior, although it is a shame that some space has been wasted beneath the cockpit.
