Creating one Death Star with famous settings from multiple movies is really unique. The set's figures, like the Emperor and multiple Luke minifigures, also makes it possible to recreate scenes from multiple Star Wars movies for hours of imaginative play. This Death Star is going to be the center piece of any LEGO Star Wars collection.
I like the Death Star, but I do kind of wish the changes from 10188 were more significant. I like most of the changes, but all the colorful Technic pieces when 10188 had mostly monochromatic ones is definitely a step back. The change I think this set needs the most is to use slopes to create a curved shape for the walls. It would've looked so much better and I would've liked the set even more. I'm sure some people could modify the top half with the current selection of slopes but we don't currently have enough inverted slope designs for the bottom half. [...] As for the set on the whole? If you already own 10188, this set is not (and was never) intended for you. This is intended for people who do not own 10188 and want a new Death Star, like me.
Got this for my grandson, he is super excited
This set is amazing! It draws you in from every angle. It comes with a great selection of minifigs, and you can't help but add even more. Its fun to recreate scenes from A New Hope, and think of your own stories. There is loads of room in the hanger bay to include other ships, containers and figures. It is a robust and very well put together piece. It is easy to turn around but I would recommend placing it on a 'lazy Susan' (spinning plate) to make it even easier. Quite a pricey set but you certainly get your monies worth in terms of qty of pieces, minifig selection, and sheer enjoyment it brings to continuously tinker with.
I think this set is one that both kids and AFOLs can get a kick out of it. Despite what people say, I think it does look good on display, and is less dull than the 10143 Death Star 2. There are some glaring issues, mainly the blockiness of the 'sphere' shape.
I would certainly recommend the set to those of you who do not own 10188, although the high price point is a concern when you consider the comparative cost of other UCS sets. The lack of significant improvement is obviously very disappointing for owners of 10188 Death Star, myself included, but based on its own merits there can be little doubt that 75159 is a worthy addition to the Ultimate Collector's Series.
