Set is very cool. I did get it when it was on sale. Pros: 4 figures is pretty good. The design works wells with a desert scene. Easy to build as well. Cons: Stickers need to be applied by hand. I rather enjoy pre-printed Bricks.
As it is, this is an okay set, but could've been much better, just by lowering the price and maybe improving the figure selection.
To conclude, this set is an average LEGO playset and I wanted to rate it above average, but the high SRP versus price per part ratio and having it ideally as five minifigures could have rack the score higher. I won't think this is a good set to buy at SRP and it's actually a decent playset to get during sales, namely when you need a base of operations to play all of the other Rogue One sets altogether.
75171 Battle on Scarif really illustrates the inherent challenges in making a good location based LEGO Star Wars set at an affordable price. Balancing size, ancillary vehicles, minifigure count and price point can prove a impossible task, as is the case here. I wish the LEGO Group had elected for a scaled down platform and a few more Scarif Stormtroopers. As it exists, this set should only be purchased at deep, deep discount. Within the constraints I am sure the designer did the best job they could, but the end result is far from a must-have model.
The first wave of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story sets was very impressive in my opinion and I am glad to say that 75171 Battle on Scarif continues that trend. It represents an ideal play set in that it is packed with fun features but is also faithful to the location from the film, despite the reduced size of the landing platform. The minifigure selection is quite impressive and it is nice to see the two main characters included, although K-2SO would have made a splendid addition to complete the trio and an alternative uniform for Jyn Erso would have been appreciated too.
I think they are both equally good sets. Battle on Takodana scores slightly better in the minifigure department, but Battle on Scarif scores slightly better in the build department. I recommend them equally, but I think you should pick up 75139 Battle on Takodana first, as it was released a year before 75171 Battle on Scarif.
I like it. I really do. Most playset-sets I get end up in pieces. Battle on Takodana lasted maybe a couple weeks. The Sandman Spider-Man set even less. But I'm keeping this one displayed. It's a cool one. If you liked Rogue One, grab it. It's neat.
