This 630-piece LEGO set reproduces this super sleek ship with wonderful detail, and super sturdy construction. Once assembled, this makes a dramatic display piece, but it's also good for play as well. What you can't see in photos or videos is how well LEGO has continued to improve on the design and all the internal pieces that provide stability for the model so fans can actually play with it.
Absolutely love this TIE model! The general design of the ship was quite appealing, so made it a priority to get. The minifigures and one droid are awesome, and build itself it a fun little challenge and the completed model is quite sturdy, so would make for fine playing (I'm displaying it instead). Kylo doesn't come with his helmet, but that's fine with me. Also, I was a little disappointed that the new droid doesn't actually fit in the model. I guess that's the way it'll be in the new movie? Oh well. Overall though, I'd highly recommend the set and believe it's a good value for the money. (Though I must admit, I got it on sale at my local store.)
75179 Kylo Ren's TIE Fighter was reviewed in issue 38 of Blocks Magazine.
All things considered, this set is not bad, especially amongst the TLJ line. However, it does not really excel: the build looks nice and menacing, but the minifigure lineup isn't great (being too small) and the play value is lacking.
Of all of the sets in the new movie collection, 75179 Kylo Ren's TIE Fighter is the set that fans will have a good idea whether or not they want as soon as they see the box. Any LEGO Star Wars collector who has built a recent TIE Fighter release will have a good idea of how it goes together, and will know what it can be expected to do. It looks striking, includes some desirable minifigures and can be used to re-enact exciting space battles. There may be a few little design niggles, but as a ship that will probably not be revisited unless it appears in Episode IX, fans of the TIE Silencer design should get it while it's hot.
LEGO Star Wars designers have really found the most effective means of recreating TIE-series vehicles over the last few years and 75179 Kylo Ren's TIE Fighter maintains the high standard we have come to expect of these models. I like the design of the TIE Silencer within the Star Wars universe and this rendition seems to be very faithful to the source material, although though there is a little room for improvement around the cockpit in my opinion.
