really neat build with some rare(ish) minifigs. usually battle pack vehicles seem flimsy, cobbled together, nonsensical or straight up dumb but this one feels complete, tidy and fun.

So I picked this set up as a "yeah, whatever" set to simply toss onto my massive LEGO haul this week, and I was pleasantly surprised. Although I could have built this in about 5 minutes, I wanted to savor the build, as I don't often buy myself LEGOs in vast quantities like I have lately. The build itself was nothing fantastic, it just looks like a Star Wars pickup-truck, but I was pleased that the crane worked well, and that the designers captured the shape of a sandcrawler in micro-form very well. (This could have very well been a sandcrawler microfighter.) The Jawas are cool, just really wish that they had come with tiny capes. The tusken raider was also cool, with neat details and a frighteningly-well molded head. The astromech is okay; I'm not a fan of the red head on the blue-detailed body, but it looks like a scrappy droid that the Jawas pieced together, so I guess it works. My astromech's head printing is a bit wonky (which is cool to me), but that was just in the luck of the draw. Overall, this set is a great way to think outside the box for battle packs, as well as adding to a Tatooine MOC or just a desert scene. I hope they do more like this.

The Rambling Brick

Recommendation: meh 4 / 5 by Richard

The figures are the standout for me in this set, although perhaps another Tusken Raider would be welcome. I would have appreciated a spare handle element amongst the spare parts, but it is sadly lacking. This means I still need to quest to replace the one munched by my dog, while I was building Thor's Weapon Quest. This is not a truly relevant point. The vehicle is a little ‘meh' on first appearance, but after putting it together, I feel happy that it was a considered build, relevant to the subject matter. It adds to the play value of the set. I was less impressed, however, with the lack of rear printing on the astromech droid.

In all, 75198 Tatooine Battle Pack represents the best that Star Wars LEGO can offer, thanks to three expertly-designed minifigures, an astromech for those that collect them, and a charming little build that feels more legitimate than it should.

On the whole, I think this is a nice set, but it's not for everyone. The minifigures themselves are not bad but I think some (including me) would prefer clones/stormtroopers instead of Jawas and Tuskens in a battle pack. It's still nice to get change in a while, though. The build itself is surprisingly good for a battle pack build – fresh and works well. Playability is not bad, as you can bring the Jawas on an adventure to catch the astromech before running away from the Tusken. Price is okay I think.

This set offers some incredible value for money, its cheap enough to just pick up and add to your collection at any time, with 3 Mini-Figures and a Droid, plus it comes with a solid vehicle that has some great pieces like the crane and stud shooters. However it doesn't really make a great model for display purposes since the main focus is the Mini-Figures rather than the vehicle.

This set has definitely exceeded my expectations! The four minifigures are excellent and multiples of most could be useful, should you wish to purchase more than one Battle Pack. I like the new printed designs on the Jawas and the Tusken Raider looks magnificent, as ever. Even the Astromech Droid works remarkably well given its seemingly mismatched colour scheme and I am pleased to add another of these droids to my collection.
