Children will soon find out why Doctor Strange is one of the most underrated characters in the Marvel Universe. A neurosurgeon turned Sorcerer Supreme, Dr. Stephen Vincent Strange is the primary protector of Earth against magical and mystical threats. With his knowledge of powerful spells, Strange is a force to be reckoned with. The imaginative play that will encompass kids (and sometimes adults) is unlimited. From recreating scenes from the movies, comics, or even their own made up stories involving Strange rescuing The Ancient One from the nefarious Baron Mordo and his portal beast, they'll have lots of fun building and playing as the days turn to nights.

My son loved this. He's 8 and put it together almost let completely by himself in two days. Very cute and detailed but a little smaller than expected.

Oh yeah. Now THAT'S a LEGO set. It's so overwhelming to begin this, so I'll dive into it. 1) The minifigures. Wow! All unique designs for this set, and they look like they were straight out of Infinity War. They're pretty fantastic, each of them. Even if there are a lot of Iron Man and Spider-man minis already, Iron Man having a lot of unique variations each time helps and Spider-man is actually warranted in this set. Cull Obsidian and Ebony Maw are terrifyingly adorable, and look very well detailed. 2) The build itself is a very neat one. It folds/unfolds nicely, has great details, and genuinely looks outstanding. It really IS the Sanctum Sanctorum. There's a little apartment for Peter Parker to hang out it, areas for Spidey to swing, little details for Dr. Strange to cozy up with, and it really looks and feels like a Marvel NYC set. 3) The price is actually not the worst, considering the quality. I'd prefer it to be $80 or even $90, but honestly, if I had to pick a LEGO set to set at $100 bucks, this would be one of the few I'd concede. 4) As an actual movie tie in promotion, this really is, like I said, straight out of Infinity War. It's one of the most movie-to-set accurate sets LEGO has made, up there with LEGO Star Wars and LEGO Ghostbusters.

Recommendation: yes 4 / 5 by Tom Alphin

This set met my high expectations. It manages to include excellent architectural detailing packed into a pretty small model. It is significantly compressed compared to the original buildings, but preserves the building's character effectively. I would happily recommend this set to anyone who appreciates the Marvel theme and wants to try something a little easier than sets in the Creator Expert series.

Recommendation: no 79 / 100 by Tom

I do really like the Sanctum Sanctorum Showdown, but I am happy that I waited for a good sale before I picked it up. At full price, this set is only satisfactory in my AFOL mind. As I kid, I would have loved this. To have a base for my characters would have been amazing. But, I can still imagine myself as a kid modifying the interior to have more detail. Now, I just wish that it was modular, and will modify mine to be just that.

I'm a little disappointed. The build looks really good and substantial from the outside and box images, but the interior is actually quite shallow, which limits playability. The play features are fun and work well, but more depth would have helped it tremendously. The minifigure selection is not bad (except for Iron Spider) but one more minifigure would undoubtedly have helped it.
