It was pretty okay to build. The stand was a bit flimsy though, fell apart a few times while I attempted to build it. It also did not come with the stickers for the eyes which is really disappointing because it pulls it together.
An addition of an exclusive minifigure could perhaps sweeten the deal and make the product slightly more palatable, but as it stands on its own, this was a really poor execution of Iron Man's iconic helmet – which is a bummer as the build was really quite enjoyable.
The popular Marvel Cinematic Universe has established certain expectations for Iron Man's helmet, despite some variation between movies. 76165 Iron Man departs from that standard quite dramatically, featuring an unusually broad jaw and flattened chin which resemble some comic book designs. I think remaining faithful to the films would have been more appropriate though, given their recent prominence. The visible differentiation between dark red colours is also disappointing.
Unfortunately, 76165 Iron Man Helmet does not deliver where it needs to most, as a display model that accurately recreates an iconic Marvel character's helmet. It's a scale, working budget and build approach that is clearly providing a few challenges for the LEGO design teams in both Marvel and Star Wars in these early sets.
