My 7 year old and I built this together. He loved the hidden traps and swinging gates. It seems to have more moving parts than I am used to in lego sets (I always thought of bionicles as having the contraptions rather than lego sets) but in spite of having so many moving parts it seems durable. Plus the Atlantis series characters are really fun.
All in all, it's a really nice set. The gateway itself isn't much. It's well designed but I don't think I'll keep it built for long. Depends on whether they make new buildings to go along, I guess. But the monsters are really good and of, course, the minifigs are absolutely fantastic. It gives me great hope for what's to come if they do more with this theme.
After completing 8061 Gateway of the Squid, I would say the overall impression is not really that good, the minifigs, which includes the Squid warrior and divers, are quite impressive, especially the very cool Squid warrior, but the squids and the temple are disappointing.
