Design could have been better and the use of bionicle pieces. More minifigs would have been better for playability.

I think this is a pretty good set. One unfortunate oversight is that the figures wear flippers and thus cannot connect to the inside of the sub with the flippers, but you could just take the flippers off.

My son is a lego fanatic. His favorite themes are Power Miners (discontinued), Star Wars, Atlantis, Ninjago and Pharoah's Quest. I initially hesitated to buy this set because of another comment I read, but we found it holds together as well as most lego sets of comparable size during play. He enjoyed building the Atlantis Exploration Headquarters, and has enjoyed playing with it since. This is his third Atlantis set. While he likes it, I would say he and his twin brother have been less interested in the Atlantis theme overall as a scenario for pretend play. We do like that the set includes lots of good parts for creative play once they're done with the original build (robots and space ships are favorites here -- lego lovers, you know what I mean). Btw, my son is 6, but a very accomplished lego builder.
