My 8 year old son got this for his birthday and loved it. It went together pretty easily for him. It is a little slow moving but works beautifully. Maybe a little pricey for the use that it will get, but otherwise a winner.

I do really like this set, it looks great, performs ok and its part selection is really nice, with the PF and suspension pieces, so I will personally, like with all my sets, be breaking this set down into my collection. [Editor's note: this review is for the alternate model.]

In my opinion if you're planning to buy an RC LEGO set, you can do better than 9398 4×4 Crawler. On Amazon 9398 costs around $325, almost the same as 8376, and it's this set which – alongside the other RC Racers sets from 2003 – earns my recommendation.

So in summary this thing does everything you might expect a LEGO rock crawler to do. OK, it is not as fast or capable as a real R/C rock crawler, but those are made of metal, put together with screws, and not at all suitable for younger children. This thing will keep the kids busy for years, and the adults as well. If I take this to work, all the engineers will lose productivity for days as they study it.
