The set is beautifully crafted, I am a big fan of curved structures for castle walls as it lends itself to a far more realistic true castle shape, and the LEGO designers have achieved this well. The wall mottling as mentioned earlier helps to further ground Helm's Deep in reality (all be it movie reality). The top notch design of the figures leaves me wanting to collect the whole Lord of the Rings line just for the exquisite printing, like on Gimli's helmet.
This is a great set for The Lord of the Rings fans out there. Its a replica of the actual Helms deep in LEGO. Lots of diorama can be done with this set alone or it can be displayed in a glass cabinet. Packed with so many details, I can look at it and play with it for a very long time. Its a retired set now, but the price is still reasonable unlike those ships with so much hike of the price.
Tuff but beautiful build. One of the best in the set. Key product features include: Weapons include swords, double-bladed axe, single-bladed axe, bow, shield, sword and Uruk-hai weapons Helm's Deep fortress features outer ring, tower with horn, opening main gate, exploding wall, side door attack function, catapult Also includes siege ladder, bomb, and horse Climb the tower and blow The Horn of Helm Hammerhand Combine with 9471 Uruk-hai Army and build up your army for even greater battles
It's an expensive set but I'd say it's worth every penny: excellent figs, well designed castle and, once you've done with it, a thousand useful parts for your own castle constructions.
I can't personally say if this is the very best of the Lord of the Ring sets, since this is the only one I've purchased so far. But I am highly pleased with it. The details, features, figs, and pieces are all amazing, and I would easily recommend this set to anybody, be they casual LEGO builders or die hard Lord of the Ring fans. The only reason you shouldn't get this set is because it's expensive, even if you can find it on sale.
This set is defiantly good to buy and the price is not too bad for the size of the set with 8 minifigs. Although you could wait for a good sale and buy the army set along with this to have more minifigs and more playability.
This set is not perfect, and there are some spots that could have be made a lot better. But it felt like a decent value for the money, and it did capture the location feel better than I thought possible, given the quality of other castles in the last few years.
