Grindelwald's Escape

Having not built anything with LEGO since childhood (a much loved lego hospital) this small set appealed to me being a Harry Potter fan. I spent a couple of hours building it. (I am a perfectionist)! It has made me want the whole HP and Fantastic Beasts collection. Fortunately I have a birthday coming up ;-). I really enjoyed the set. The attention to detail is delightfuI. I loved that the coach lanterns swivel up and down and the red lining on the ceiling matches the seat of the gothic black coach. The shiny gunmetal wheels look awesome. The winged horse looks fab. The minifigs look the part and are interactive. It encouraged me to spend time away from technology and social media which can only be a good thing. Really good fun on a Saturday afternoon. I thoroughly recommend this set to young and old. 5 ***** more less

I think this is an underwhelming set, and it's a bit disappointing that this is the only set at this price point for the Wizarding World theme (not counting the BrickHeadz). The build is okay, the minifigure count is a bit low and neither are huge standouts for me, playability is pretty limited, and the price is not exactly great either. more less

At this price point, a set this large in a licensed theme with two exclusive figures and a new moulded creature is nothing to scoff at. If it had to be done at the expense of some detail on figure printing and visual appeal on the carriage so be it – this set's mission is to be a fun play accessory in the range of Wizarding World sets and in that regard it succeeds. It is just a little disappointing when recent examples exist of the concept having been executed much better. more less

At $20, this set is $5 more expensive than Aragog's Lair but has ~20 less pieces, and that's more than likely due to the Thestral causing a premium on this set. This set looks good and I feel does what it needs to do, of course without knowing too much about this until the film comes out I can only assume. The Thestral looks great and for many will be the primary reason to get this set, but I think the carriage itself is a nice design and could be transitioned well into a non-Wizarding World fan's city. When compared to Aragog's lair (again just because it's the closest in pricepoint), the set feels more substantial because it does create a fairly large model. more less

The entire Wizarding World theme has proven to be very impressive and this set continues that trend. I absolutely love the brand new Thestral and Grindelwald's carriage looks brilliant, including lots of room for minifigures as well as a few simple functions. Furthermore, the price of £19.99 in the UK or $19.99 in the US feels quite reasonable, particularly since the Thestral includes a couple of new elements. more less

Overall the LEGO Wizarding World Grindelwald's Escape (75951) is actually an above average set that I do recommend picking up before the movie comes out. The minifigure selection is decent with Gellert Grindelwald as the main antagonist and Seraphina Picquery as a supporting character. The carriage with Thestral looks amazing and it looks like something you would see during that time period. The only knock I have on the set is the appearance of Grindelwald as the minifigure doesn't look like he does from the trailers. more less
