I made Halloween baskets for my niece and nephew, and these Halloweeen-themed bricks were perfect for my almost 4-year-old nephew. The box size was just a little bigger than a box of animal crackers, and it fit perfectly into the bucket with some candy and other items.I really liked that the items you build in this kit can also be used in other projects year-round. The pumpkin is great for any fall-themed project, and you can give your LEGO families a giant pet cat or bat. You can even teach your kid about bat colonies and how they provide natural pest control by eating mosquitos, then give the LEGO bat a home outside your LEGO house. The possibilities are endless.
Throughout this year, I've really like these little seasonal sets and the Halloween Bat (40090) isn't an exception. It's a nice addition to my current cast of seasonal characters.
The build is simple but adorable. Like most of the other animals in this series, the body is mostly slopes and snot. The palate is neatly monotone, but balanced nicely by the orange pumpkin and the pops of pink on the bat. A fun little build. What is interesting about this set is that it just screams to be a parts pack. So many of the little black half bows and orange cheeses. Add to that a nice selection of snot elements and some useful clips and bars. With a price per piece below 6.5¢, this is a pretty guilt free little set.
I think this set has a great deal of charm about it. He would look nice as part of a Halloween display (though perhaps rather lonely – I may need to build him a lady companion!) but also has some nice play features that kids can use to act out stories with him.
