The propotions on it are on point and looks great next to its older brother. All the parts aren't exclusive however a majority of the dark azure blue parts are still pretty rare.
I enjoyed putting the vehicle together. Sometimes a hunt and gather mission helps to put me back in touch with my collection. The car certainly zoomable, and while not a color match for 10252, I enjoyed putting it together. The running board/wheel arch integration is neat, and I appreciated the way the rear of the car came together.
I was very pleased with this mini model representation. I could not wait to see if this exclusive makes in to USA. The piece count is very nice. You get quite a few of the blue pieces that match larger creator set. There are 9 stickers total for this set. You get 2 license plate, 2 rear tail light, 1 VW symbol, 2 side window stickers, and 2 surf board stickers. The mini model scale is larger than the one for Mini Cooper and VW Bus. I highly recommend picking this up if you can. This was the cheapest price for it I had seen by 3rd party. They have been going for more on Ebay. I'd say model is about 5 in x 2 in x 4 in give or take. I did not measure exactly.
Overall, for a free set, this one is not bad. I am not crazy about it, but once I get a beach going in my LEGO city, I will probably park this car next to it. I will, however, try to modify it so that it can accommodate a Minifigure.
I think this a great little set for a promo. While the set is free with a $50 purchase in the U.S., this is considered a $9.99 set. At 141 pieces, this is a terrific value. While it's pretty near impossible to recreate all the curves of a VW Beetle on such a small scale, I think the designer has done a good job of recreating the iconic look of the Beetle. I particularly like the details that have been included, from the rear view mirrors to the roof rack and accessories. My only (minor) disappointment is that the tail lights are represented by stickers as opposed to translucent red tiles.
For the gift-with-purchase price of SGD$100 minimum spend, it is one of the better deals that I've seen the LEGO Certified Store promote in Singapore. If you have anything sets that you're waiting for the right time to buy, that would be now.
