I bought this because I've always called my youngest "mommies little birdy" because from day one he has been a bird lover like me. I think this lego set is supper cute! Hope they make more bird types so we can add it to our lego collection. My kids PLAY with lego, to me Lego is an art so its the best of BOTH worlds
The innovative design and build of the Budgies make for one of the more unique and interesting Bricheadz pets yet, and they do look remarkably cute when on display. They're not as elegant as the other 3 Pets, but they look “Budgie" enough, and for fans who enjoy birdkeeping as a hobby, they will no doubt be very pleased with the end result.
Both the Goldfish and Budgie BrickHeadz sets were really fun to build and definitely worth their price in plastic. Hat's off to another round of enjoyable, adorable and playable LEGO sets that both kids and adults are sure to enjoy.
Overall the LEGO BrickHeadz Budgie (40443) is something that resonates with me because I personally had a couple of them as pets years ago. The parakeets are pretty cute and the colors of the parts are a nice choice. The parts usage is also decent with some parts in new colors.
Regarding BrickHeadz Pets in general, I love the idea of creating a series of animal builds but I find it a lost opportunity they went with BrickHeadz. I would much rather see this idea being used for more realistic-looking animals. BrickHeadz are fun and all, and seeing I have over 20 over them I clearly see the appeal in the theme, but I see it more as caricature versions of characters from different franchises. It also works within the Seasonal sets, since the animals here are characters in some sense as well. They are also a lot simpler than these builds. With 'normal' animals, I'd rather go realistic.
As you've probably noticed I'm a big BrickHeadz fan and I welcome innovations like those introduced with the pets range to keep the theme fresh and interesting. These two sets are certainly better than I thought they'd be when I first saw pictures on the boxes, which don't do them justice at all.
40443 Budgie is the most colourful of the four Brickheadz Pets, but as a result looks a bit muddled. The colours clash, the front of the budgie lacks any texture and the tan enclosure detracts from the two finished models rather than adds to them. From certain angles the models look great, but from others they are far too plain. The build isn't as engaging as the other sets, and is over pretty quickly. This is probably only one for diehard fans of budgies or BrickHeadz – or both, if there is such a thing.
