We have lots of technic sets but this one definitely stands out. Color scheme is great and is fairly long making it stand out. We did try fitting a power functions kit to it but wasn't really worthwhile to be honest. Still good just as is.
LEGO's Drag Racer has quality details. Lift up the body of the car to reveal different car parts, steer the car with a steering part, which makes it really feel like you're racing, or pop a wheelie. Builder will feel accomplished once they see and test their drag racer. As a bonus, this set offers a two-in-one model build. It can be dismantled and rebuilt into a Supercharged Dragster.
This Lego Technic Drag Racer was very fun to build. It took approximately 5 hours to build (I was taking my time and enjoying the build) It's really cool to watch some of the mechanism you build come together into a fully functioning toy. Only ting you have to be careful about is the direction book, in some case the gray pieces look like the black pieces and can cause some confusion. Overall, great product and fun build!
Do you know that feeling that you see a car for the first time and think "how on earth did that design make it to production?!" and after a while you get used to it and the feeling somehow turns to appreciation. That's more or less what happened to me when I was writing the review. Don't get me wrong; I am still surprised that TLG failed to do better than this. Of all the models I have reviewed, this is my least favorite when it comest to the design. I am a big fan of panels, but I think the designer could have done a better job designing the front of the car.
There are two compelling reasons to purchase this set: first, the rare parts are justification particularly because of the tumbler tyres, and secondly, this is quite a good mid-sized set with a V8 engine which will appeal to many LEGO Technic car enthusiasts.
I rate this set a solid 'Missed-opportunity-to-introduce-a-cool-new-shade-of-blue'. I know I sound very negative, but I just don't like the set... It feels like this set would have grown if some more details went into the engine, had proper colours and didn't cut so many corners.
