This set is a wonderful set! It has some flaws like, the tower is empty and it doesn't have any furniture. The set doesn't have many pieces for the price, but come on, its pirates! Who cares!
Soldier's Fort is hardly the perfect kit. The model is a bit simple, the quality of some of the pieces is not the greatest, and the price is very high. But, considering that Pirates have been gone for over a decade and a half, this kit and the others in the line are a breath of fresh air. Get it on sale, or get it normally, but I highly urge you to buy this kit if you're a Pirate fan, or a fan of good lego in general.
Too often we feel Legos are overpriced and that we never get our money's worth. This set is the exception. It came with enough guys so we can all play, 4 bags of building supplies, and rather than connect the buildings, we kept them all separate for more flexibility, more fun, and more players. The individual pieces are durable, but it is kind of tough for a 4-year-old to keep the assembled pieces together if s/he treats them like a space ship.
