Bought this item brand new and was very disappointed to see how it arrived. It had an obvious clearance sticker on it from another store that was torn off and covered up with a white label. This was a gift for my son's friend and it was very embarrassing to have it arrive like that. It appears the box was not opened, but a brand new box should not have damages like that.
This set isn't bad. While it isn't Nexo Knights quality *cough cough* it isn't as good as some of the other Ninjago movie sets I've picked up. The minifigures are like any other set from the movie: They're great, but you kinda get used to them. This is my first set with Jay, and he looks great. The numchucks are great, and I like them. Takuma is pretty good, but none of his pieces are exclusive. The Hammerhead dude is nice. The head is pretty much my dad's, and the hat thing is nice. One thing I've noticed, however, is that he uses the really popular legs. 5 out of my 6 Shark Army Warriors use these legs. I didn't really notice it until I put all of them next to eachother. His torso isn't as common, but is still easy to get. The Jellyfish is good. He uses those same legs as the Hammerhead, which kinda bugs me. I'm also getting sick of his head. Half of my Shark Army dudes have it. LEGO, you really need to design more pieces for these guys. Getting out of rant mode, the hat thing is AWESOME. It is actually two pieces that each make up a half of it. On the torso, there are tentacles, which look so cool. I'm glad they added little details like that. Takuma's boat is cool. To be honest, I built bag 3 first, which is the one it comes in. I love all the little lights and strings. You can really only fit one minifigure in it, which is just fine, but if you take out the buckets, you can put in 3. It has a nice feel to it, and it's very light. The Flying Jelly Sub, the main build, is better than the boat IMO. The cockpit is detailed, and the clear cup is kinda funny. The window/door thing is huge. The white thing behind it looks like it's the wrong color. The fans and oxygen tank things are ok. There are two flick missiles, which actually shoot pretty far. The headlights are ok. The legs are pretty fun, but they got a bit repetitive. The 34 stickers are a nice addition. You can hold the top of the Jelly Sub and spin the legs, which is a nice function. I love the chains, which are translucent orange, and I'm pretty sure they're exclusive. I like dangling them around and holding the sub from them. Overall, it's a pretty solid set, but not as good as the Manta Ray Bomber, which is the same price. If you had to decide between the two, I would recommend the Manta Ray Bomber, unless you really want this set.
The LEGO Ninjago Movie Flying Jelly Sub (70610) is an example of a set that can make a great army builder set, until the Piranha Attack (70629) coming out in the next wave. The sub itself is a quirky little build while the boat is not too shabby either. You do get some pretty rare parts in this set and even some that are exclusive to just this set. It was a fun build and I do recommend you pick it up.
70610 Flying Jelly Sub is not one of the most exciting sets in the range, but as one of the lower priced entries it is well worth picking up to complement some of the larger sets. It offers a solid build, looks great and is fun to fiddle with – it speaks to the high standard across The LEGO NINJAGO Movie range that this does not make the top five must buys.
70610 Flying Jelly Sub is perhaps my favourite of the vehicles which make up Garmadon's army in The LEGO NINJAGO Movie. The craft looks suitably bizarre and includes plenty of fun play features as well as some welcome rare pieces. It is unfortunate that the toxic tentacles cannot hang beneath the vessel while it is on display but I like how they flail around in flight and an appropriate balance between practical and jellyfish-based details has been found.
The finished set is pretty great. I really like both of the vehicles and I bet that kids would get a lot of play value out of them. For me, there are some really cool elements and some interesting techniques. I can't help but think this would make another good draft set.
