I bought this for my son for Christmas. He is a little younger than the age on the box, but he has been playing with Legos for quite some time and was delighted with this set. He really likes building with the Star Wars themed sets. This one allows him to shoot 'missles' and transform the built ship somewhat to add a level of interest and imagination for him.
The constructed Vulture Droid has several movable pieces and features that allow it to go from flight mode to walking mode, as it does in the Star Wars prequels. In flight mode, the Vulture has a working cockpit that the Battle Droid fits in and two spring-loaded missiles. The Vulture is easily converted to walking mode by pivoting the wings. In walking mode, the canopy rises up and forward to become the droid's head.
It's a great set and would be a nice addition to your CIS Army, specially the Neimoidian warrior. The design of the fighter is very sturdy and the new springshooters are an improvement, if your into that. The Buzz Droid is still a strange looking, way too big thing imo. Also, I don't like the applying of stickers...
This is a real step backwards from the previous versions, and it doesn't fix the biggest inaccuracy (walking legs) while adding a few new ones (like a cockpit). It's only the part selection and the buzz droid that really keep this from being worse.
After 3 renditions of the vulture droid, LEGO finally made one to minifig scale. It features a sturdy and simple transformation feature and can hold a pilot droid. The spring loaded launchers add great playability to the model. Unfortunately there aren't notable minifigs in this set if you're looking for non-generic characters from the Star Wars universe. As a parts pack, it is not the best due to the higher than average price-per-piece ratio.
