Today, my parents got me this LEGO set at my local Barnes & Noble Bookstore for 30% off. I'm really glad I have it! The minifigures look great, and are really detailed. The Ares large-figure is a really cool villain for Wonder Woman and Steve Trevor to fight. I also like the plane, and how simple yet effective the build is. Overall, this is a cool LEGO set that has a lot of playability. Review by cheesy. 8/4/2018
It's sad that this is the only wonder woman lego set, but it's not a bad set for the actual price (which should be around $30). the wonder woman minifig is very cute and comes with either her hair or a blue hood and cloak. Steve Trevor comes with an adorable pistol set, cool hair, and a flight cap with goggles that can lower over his eyes. The plane is the highlight of the set, as far as I'm concerned. It's a delightful representation of a biplane, with flick-missiles and brick shooters, detailed landing wheels, a rudder that pivots, and a spinning propeller. Ares is huge and appropriately detailed-his skull helmet is ingenious. My only complaint about this set is that his arms aren't especially pose able, and you can't remove his sword without removing his entire hand. He looks great though.
Fans of the new Wonder Woman movie will like building out a scene from the movie and helping Wonder Woman save the day. But this will also be a fun building set for any Wonder Woman fan. It's got lots of moving parts for action-packed play and lots of nice details so that it could be something collectors will want to build and keep out on display.
Overall, I'm quite happy with this set. You get two great minifigures and two great builds for a decent price.
Being completely honest, this was a Minifigure purchase for me. I really wanted the movie version of Wonder Woman, and this set was the cheapest way to get one. Looking forward to the Justice League sets later this year, I think this set will remain the cheapest way to get the character. She also comes with the cape and hood in this set, which was/will not be available in the other sets. The plane build is a little lack-lustre in my opinion, but Ares is pretty cool. The set has good per brick and build-time values too. Overall, it is not a bad set, but not a great one either. Wonder Woman rocks though.
Overall it's hard to find much to fault this set on. It's not the greatest triumph LEGO has ever achieved, but it's without doubt far from the worst, especially for a lower priced set. The price for two unique minifigures, one giant supervillain and a WW1 airplane seems pretty decent and the models here are definitely a draw rather than the minifigures alone. It's perhaps a shame that the back of Ares looks a little incomplete due to the way it was built and would have benefited from some tiles or stickers, though this might be easier said than done.
This set just feels flawed. The price is a bit of a head-scratcher, the AU$60 we're charged in Australia makes it pretty poor value, but if I view it from an American (US$30) or British (GBP £30) lens, this set all of a sudden feels like amazing value. I don't usually complain about pricing, but it feels like Australia got the short end of the stick with this one.
The quality of the Super Heroes range seems to fluctuate wildly but this set certainly falls towards the positive end of that spectrum. All three characters look splendid and I like the monoplane very much, especially since it is rare to see an aircraft of this kind in LEGO. Furthermore, the balance of forces is evenly matched so the set is ideally suited to exciting play as well as display.
