The Lion Dance set is an absolutely inspired set, and just a complete joy to build. Firstly, it captures the spirit and look of a Lion Dance performance flawlessly. The set feels substantial, as you get a stage, and temple archway which makes for a great backdrop for the set. Secondly, I really loved the build. Putting the Lions together was a real joy, especially the first one when you experience how the model comes together.
Surprising use of some pieces, very nice details. No stickers, all printed pieces. Beautiful.
Put them all together and you get a stunning set that's a perfect follow up to the 2019 Chinese New Year releases. There's plenty of play options included – dancing the lions around was fun, even for a 35 year old! I'm really looking forward to building the Temple Fair now, and putting them both together.
Lion Dance comes at a good, but not amazing value. The build is stunning, and the product is certainly a display piece. Additionally, I like the Minifigure prints a lot. However, the kit lacks accessories and appeals to a niche market. Those building up custom Ninjago districts will find use for this for sure. Interest or curiosity about Chinese culture also makes the set appealing. However, kids will probably not go for this kit over more recognizable themes. Personally, I love it and it fits well with my current build plans and interests.
80104 Lion Dance undoubtedly maintains the impressive standard that was established by previous Chinese New Year sets during 2019. These models are exceptionally detailed, accurately replicating each notable feature of lion dance celebrations with remarkable accuracy. The lions themselves look particularly appealing and I love the decorative gateway which forms a backdrop for the performance.
Despite the simplicity, there is an intense attention to detail here. With appreciation of the various meanings behind the design choices, special elements, significance of each activity in the festivities and legend behind the lions, the set becomes more appealing and grows on you. LEGO also designed this to be combined with the Chinese New Year Temple Fair, creating a bigger scene. This is also a great way to integrate the story into a larger world. And with the tiny stand-alone lions looking so great, I'd probably sneak a few of these on my desk for display at the office to bring me good luck and fortune for 2020. Maybe you should too?
The set captures the spirit and look of a lion dance celebration, so it's a set that all lovers of Asian culture will want to have in their hands. The amount of pieces in new colors, no stickers and new exclusive silkscreen prints, the amount of details, the 5 lions and the 8 minifigs, one of them with the Year of the Rat costume, make this set an interesting piece to get your hands on.
The final set is quite appealing, delivering a set that is simultaneously great for play, display, and parts for builders. Although the process of building all the lions can get tiresome, the way they are scattered throughout the building process helps to alleviate some of that repetition. Furthermore, thanks to the addition of the gateway, percussionist stage, and lion dance stage, the set looks fantastic when placed on display, even without 80105 Chinese New Year Temple Fair. The incredible number of new elements for builders only adds to the desirability of this set, and it is a set I would certainly suggest getting if you're fortunate enough to find a copy for sale.
