I'm really in love with the interior and the mushrooms, the pumpkins and the owls. It needs some modding, but it's a bit like the Kingdoms Black Tower: it does not feel finished, but somehow I love it.
This set is almost a hit and a miss on LEGO's part. It isn't terrible, but it isn't good either.
This was purchased for two boys, 4 and 6. That is pretty young for this set but, it was Christmas and they wanted it. I am so glad they got it. Adults did help with the initial set up as there are some tricky pieces to get together, the amazing thing is that it actually stays together. My boys USE this. It has been dropped, carried up and down stairs and battled Star Wars ships. The structure really stays together for use. The only things that keeps coming off are the roof panels. They are on hinges so it can be closed or open to play in, they fall off often, but do not destroy the integrity of the hut. The boys favorite features are the HUGE spider as well as the little ones, it comes with 4 guys, which is great and, it has a ton of little things for detail ie. owl, potions, lantern. This is a great value and can be played with regularly after the initial build.
In U.S. terms, that's just a pass. Not a failure, but just scraping by. That reflects how I feel about this set well; it certainly doesn't suck, but there's not much to do with the model, the spider is poor, and Hermione pisses me off.
This is the most complete Hagrid's Hut to date (and probably ever). It's got lots of goodies inside and out. It looks good, but not amazing. If they had done away with the spider, maybe they could have made it look a little more impressive. But I'm more of a model guy and less of a playset guy, so what do I know? At least the parts offerings are better than average. So even at MSRP, you really can't go wrong here. If you catch it on sale like I did, even better!
This LEGO Hagrid's Hut set improves on previous versions quite a lot, with more furnished interiors and more minifigures. While it keeps the standard appearance of the previous, 2004 version, it has its own unique character. It's also a great opportunity to get all three of the main characters at once, for people not very much into collecting, plus Hagrid, himself a rather uncommon minifigure.
