I was excited to put it on my shelf with some of the other iconic vehicles we've gotten lately, and it looks great hanging out with Ecto-1 like some sort of nerdy car show.
The Mystery Machine is an outstanding set, radiating with the warmth of nostalgia that's enhanced by its great design and execution. I highly recommend picking this set up if you're a fan of the Scooby Doo cartoons or if you love LEGO in general.
I always have been, and always will be a HUGE Scooby Doo fan. This was super fun, it was a great building experience, not too difficult. Soon, I will complete all of the abailable Scooby Doo legos! I would definitely recommend this one!
Customer Video Review Length:: 0:56 Mins The colors and detail of this set is awesome. It takes roughly and hour to build, that's what it took me since I took a long time to make sure the stickers were aligned perfectly. It comes with the tree but what I really wanted is the cool looking Mystery Machine! It somewhat resembles the large VW Lego set that retails for nearly $100 more, the only difference being that this is very small and it's Scooby Doo. If you like Legos and Scooby Doo then get this! Make sure you don't pay more than the actual retail price which is $30 so I recommend waiting for it to be back in stock or just getting it from Lego or elsewhere. The time-lapse came out bad since the settings were set for a much longer Lego build but you can still see the process.
The actual parts used in the Mystery Machine don't offer a lot (especially when you consider how many of those parts are plastered with stickers). However, the finished model is a perfect representation of the cartoon's source material - and it looks instantly recognizable when sitting on a shelf! For kids, I would say the play value of all the Scooby-Doo set is quite high since you get both heroes and villains (though I think the tree and zombie combo is one of the lamer villains in the set). For adults, the set is all about notalgia. If you are my age and watched Scooby-Doo, buy the set. If you never watched the show and/or have no connection to the source material, well, your $30 can probably be better spent elsewhere.
LEGO has done a great job in recreating it given the fairly small amount of pieces used to build it. The details on both the outside and inside give the vehicle more accuracy to the cartoon. The minifigures that are in the set are top-notch including Fred and the Zombie.
Kids can help Scooby and the gang escape from the spooky forest in the Mystery Machine. This cool set offers construction and imaginative play as Scooby fans build the scene, and then have fun riding around in The Mystery Machine, using the equipment to solve the mystery, and fighting off the spooky tree, which has adjustable branches and a hidden gem. Shaggy and Fred minifigures feature double-sided faces for different expressions. There's even a big LEGO Scooby snack sandwich for Scooby to enjoy.
In summary, if you are a Scooby-Doo fan this set will not disappoint. The price seems reasonable so if you see it in stores I would snap it up. I would not be at all surprised to see this set sell out rapidly as 76031 The Hulk Buster Smash did back in April.
