Superman: Metropolis Showdown

My 10 year old son bought this for himself and thinks it was fairly easy to build. He liked that the kit had lots of special effects like an explosion mechanism that makes the tower fly off. There's also a catapult that flips the car over. The characters faces are double sided to show different expressions. He actually thought it would be less exciting than it is. This might seem harsh, but with these smaller sets there isn't often a lot there and it's hard to get too enthusiastic about them. As i've mentioned throughout though, the one thing this set can't be knocked for is value, and I think that's where the true strength of it lies. more less

To be frank, this set is a hard sell. Superman isn't an exclusive inclusion and can be found in sets that offer better value; other versions of Zod can similarly be found in larger sets. On a design front, it doesn't fare well standing alone. The two play features aren't enough to make up for the sparing design, although the vehicle is a bit of a saving grace if you're a fan of that sort. On the one hand, the lack of interesting quirks makes this ideal for expansion. At the same time, that could also be used against this set, considering what it is intended to be: bearing the word "showdown," there's too much being left to the imagination. If the other Superman sets don't draw your eye and you'd like to get one of the two characters in some form, then I suppose you'll be able to make do. But there is a clear slimness to the design that makes you want more for the cost of the set. more less

This set doesn't really do much for me. The minifigures are not exclusive since they are in the other two sets in the wave. The set took about 10 minutes to build and it felt like there could be more to it. However, this set is an easy way to get the Superman and General Zod minifigures. more less

this is a good little $13 set that makes it sort of a disposable pick-up. It would have been nice if it had a bit more variety compared to other sets, or better, if the other sets would have had a different selection of figures. I would have loved to see this set be a little bigger and include Perry White along with it (and not just to get a Morpheus figure), even if that would have meant some more money. more less
