A great advance over my own childhood-time pneumatics, which easily broke or did not perform as expected. These are not mechanical cylinders that extend through a rotating mechanism and extending metal shaft. Simpler, robust, metal built (where necessary) can transmit movement much better. The set imitates what in real life are oil-pressure-driven cylinders to move cranes' arms and tips (even Lego CS wrongly calls them pneumatic, hence my clarification for those like me, who own the 1980s pneumatic set and wonder how this one works). Worth each dollar.

All of the foregoing is a roundabout way of telling you that 42006 is a fine set. It's not a substitute for 8043, but it's certainly the second-best excavator, and I don't mind the sacrifice of simpler, fewer functions and a skimpier appearance at this price point. It does what it needs to.
